The Long Weekend Plan

What’s new

What’s changed in the planner.

Every update to the planner, newest first.

October 2026

New features

  • Six more charts: Strategic transactions, Super by phase, Contributions and caps (with a Concessional / Non-concessional switch), Age Pension, Assets test and Income test. Charts with nothing to show are hidden.
  • Offset accounts shown clearly: money in an offset account is shown with the loan it reduces, not as cash you can spend. For example, $50,000 in an offset against a $400,000 loan shows as $350,000 still owing and $50,000 covered by the offset.
  • Cash you can spend: the cash charts show only money you can actually spend, and turn red if it would drop below zero.
  • Cashflow chart shows both directions: in a year when your income is more than your spending, the money left over shows above the line, saved to cash. In a year when your income falls short, the cash you use to make up the difference shows below the line, in red.
  • Inherit a property: on a year’s transactions page, choose to inherit a property instead of buying it. No cash is used, and capital gains tax follows the inheritance rules: for example, no tax on a parent’s home sold within 2 years of their death. You can also mark a property you already own as inherited.
  • Capital expenses by category: on each year’s transactions page, you can enter big costs under a category, such as Holiday, New car, Gifts, Healthcare or Aged care. You can set any category to repeat, for example $40,000 for a new car every 5 years from age 65 to 80, in today’s dollars. A repeat can change amount over time: for example, $30,000 a year up to age 69, then $40,000 a year from 70.
  • Repeating super contributions: you can set extra concessional and non-concessional contributions to repeat each year or every few years, in the same way.
  • Two inflation rates: until you retire, prices are assumed to rise by 3.7% each year, and after you retire by 2.5% each year, as ASIC’s rules set out. An amount you enter in today’s dollars stays the same in today’s dollars. You can change both rates.
  • A completely reorganised planner: it now opens straight onto your plan, with your details in six clear sections (People, Assets and debts, Income, Spending, Returns, General assumptions), each showing its totals at a glance. The results are one click away: Stress tests, Plan Confidence, Where the money goes and the Sweet Spot calculator. A simpler header holds Load, Save and More, and information pages open over your plan without losing your place. The full version is now called Plus.
  • Plan Confidence builds up as it runs: instead of waiting on a spinner, watch the result, the income line and the range of outcomes grow, and see the confidence settle. You can choose 200, 500 or 1,000 runs.
  • Quick Setup and Detailed Setup: start with a few totals, or switch to Detailed Setup to enter each account.
  • New tax laws: the extra tax on super balances over $3 million (Division 296), limits on negative gearing for property bought after 12 May 2026, and the 15% tax rate falling to 14% from 2027–28.
  • Medicare levy surcharge: if you don’t have private hospital cover, your plan now includes it.
  • Choose how far ahead to plan: Short (15 years), Medium (30 years) or Max (to age 92). Find it under People in Detailed Setup.
  • Net worth by account: see each account by name.
  • About this calculator: every rule, rate, threshold and assumption the planner uses, with the date it applies from.

Other improvements

  • Other property (not your home): “Investment property” is now called “Other property (not your home)”, as it covers a rental, a holiday house or a property you inherit. It works as before.
  • Capital expenses in the Excel workings: each capital expense category and each inheritance now has its own column, year by year.
  • Sign in with a code: signing in now emails you a 6-digit code to type in, instead of a link. It works with more email providers, and you can read the email on your phone while you sign in on your computer.
  • Clickable charts: click a year on a Strategy chart to open that year’s transactions.
  • Planning on your own: the planner speaks to you alone, with no partner columns or couple wording.
  • Stress tests and Plan Confidence each have their own screen.
  • Clearer graphs: distinct colours, legends that show only what’s in your plan, and every account named.
  • Tips: turn tips on and the first one walks you through Quick Setup and Detailed Setup.
